A Perfect Day in Forest Park – Kid-Approved!
Looking for a fun, easy, and totally kid-friendly day out in the Chicago area? Look no further than Forest Park, a vibrant village packed with family-owned businesses, green spaces, and retro charm.
This edition of “A Perfect Day in Forest Park” is kid-approved by one of our local young explorers, Paloma from @places.with.paloma. She and her family spent the day enjoying all that Forest Park has to offer—from breakfast to bedtime treats—and we’re excited to share their itinerary!
Stop 1: Forest Park Bakery
📍7332 Madison St.
Start your morning with something sweet at this beloved, family-owned bakery that’s been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Whether you’re grabbing a box of fresh-baked donuts, flaky strudels, or buttery croissants, Forest Park Bakery is the perfect place to fuel up before your big adventure.
Stop 2: Reiger Park
📍1526 Circle Ave.
Next, head over to Reiger Park, just a few blocks away. This recently redesigned park (thank you, Park District of Forest Park!) offers a welcoming playground, shaded spots, and plenty of open space to run, explore, and burn off some energy. It’s the perfect mid-morning stop for little legs that love to move.
Stop 3: Circle Lanes
📍7244 Circle Ave.
Time for some indoor fun! Circle Bowling Lanes offers family-friendly bowling with automatic bumpers for kids, lightweight balls, and a few classic arcade games to top it off. It’s retro, relaxed, and just the right amount of competitive for all ages.
Stop 4: Starship Restaurant & Catering
📍7618 Madison St.
When hunger strikes, Starship is ready to launch your lunch into another galaxy. Their legendary submarine sandwiches are piled high with flavor, and their daily soup lineup offers something for everyone—even the pickiest eaters. Kids will love the sci-fi décor and spaceship murals—it’s truly a local gem.
Stop 5: The Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor
📍7347 Madison St.
No perfect day is complete without dessert! Wrap things up at The Brown Cow, a nostalgic ice cream shop that serves up handmade ice cream, floats, and sundaes in an old-fashioned setting. It’s a sweet ending to a fun-filled day.
Make It Your Own
